Cayton Bay
Cayton Bay is an award-winning sandy beach located between Scarborough and Filey, perfect for surfers and dog walkers looking to escape the crowds.
Recognised as an area of unspoilt natural beauty, Cayton Bay is a magnet for surfers, holidaymakers, bird watchers and even fossil hunters. It is also dog friendly year round, unlike beaches in the larger nearby towns of Filey and Scarborough, so your four-legged friend can enjoy the waves here no matter the season.
The beach wins awards year on year for its natural beauty, and is one of only a handful of British Isle beaches awards the Quality Coast Award.
Facing the North Sea, the bay is ideal for surfers and windsurfers and is home to one of the longest running surf schools in the country. Cayton Bay Surf School offers lessons for those of all ages and abilities and is located just at the top of the bay cliff.
The beach is accessible via steps or a concrete path which is quite steep. Free parking is available for beach-goers at the top of the hill.
Cayton Bay makes for an ideal, relaxed day out. Enjoy the sandy bay, explore the WW2 pillboxes scattered around the shore, or look for fossils - the cliffs here were formed way back in the Jurrasic era!
