The May Day Bank Holiday, from Friday 3rd May to Monday 6th 2024, has plenty of things to do for all types of visitors to our beautiful coast and countryside. Whether you are staying at one of our parks by the sea or the moors, you're not far from the many events and activities on offer. Here's our top picks.

Scarborough Streets | Sat 4th to Mon 6th May

Something a little different is coming to the streets of Scarborough this year. As part of the new Scarborough Fair project to boost the local community, ‘Scarborough Streets’ will bring a weekend of outdoor performances and activities – all free to attend!

Street performers including circus acts, live music, dancers and magicians will crop up across the town to entertain crowds and offer interactive shows such as yoga and theatre performances. A number of stages will be set up for a variety of performers, including in the Brunswick Shopping Centre and Crescent Gardens.

The Scarborough Streets performances will be taking place from 11am to 4pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Duncombe Park Country Fair | Mon 6th May

The annual Duncombe Park Country Fair takes place near Helmsley and prides itself on being the original and biggest North Yorkshire fair.

This year the fair is expected to have a large number of activities for everyone to take part in, such as clay pigeon shooting, axe throwing, a ‘bucking bronco’ and trampolines. For the kids, there’s a mini fun fair, face painting and pony riding.

On top of all this, there’s the usual displays and shows in country fair fashion, with horse and dog shows and stunt riding.

Gothic Falconry at Whitby Abbey | Sat 4th & Sun 5th May

Visit Whitby Abbey over the bank holiday to see their displays of ‘Gothic Falconry’. Featuring a stunning cast of falcons, hawks and owls in flying displays throughout the weekend within the haunting ruins of the Abbey, this historical country activity is guaranteed to be awe-inspiring and fun for all.

Filey Folk Festival | Fri 3rd to Sun 5th May

The annual Filey Folk Festival is taking place across the May Day weekend, with numerous musical folk acts performing at several venues and busking. Performances are free for all to watch and enjoy. 2024 will mark 20 years of the Folk Festival coming to the seaside town and over 100 acts are expected to offer live music over the weekend.
