The May Day Bank Holiday, from Friday 2nd May to Monday 5th 2025, has plenty of things to see and do for all types of visitors to our beautiful area. Whether you are staying at one of our parks by the coast or in the countryside, you're not far from the many events and activities on offer. Here's our top picks.
Filey Folk Festival | Fri 2nd to Sun 4th May
The annual Filey Folk Festival is taking place across the May Day weekend, with numerous musical folk acts performing at several venues and busking. Performances are free for all to watch and enjoy. Over 100 musicians will be performing Traditional and Contemporary Folk, Americana, Country, Blues and everything in between!
Slingsby Scarecrow Festival | Sat 3rd to Mon 5th May
Over May Day weekend, Slingsby becomes home to over 30 scarecrows made by families in the village. On May Day itself, a celebratory village fair takes place on The Green with traditional dances around the village maypole, various stalls selling local crafts, produce, and treats, and often includes classic village fair games and activities for all ages.

Duncombe Park Country Fair | Mon 5th May
Held annually in the stunning grounds of Duncombe Park near Helmsley, is a quintessential North Yorkshire event that has been running since 1982. This traditional one-day fair on May 5th offers a fantastic family day out with a wide array of attractions. Visitors can expect to see main arena displays like stunt riding and terrier racing, alongside demonstrations, a fun dog show, and fairground rides. The fair also hosts horse and pony showing classes, a craft fair marquee, a farmers market showcasing local produce, and displays of vintage vehicles and machinery, ensuring there's something to captivate all ages and interests.
