Upcoming Festivals & Events for August 2019

We're almost towards the end of the holiday season here but there's still plenty of festivals, activities and events happening over the Yorkshire Coast. Take a look at some of the biggest ones coming up soon here.

Countryfile Live at Castle Howard (15th – 18th August)

One of Britain’s most watched factual TV programmes comes to life in a four day showcase packed with features celebrating everything there is to love about the British countryside at Castle Howard.

Join your favourite Countryfile presenters! Plus Brian Turner and his celebrity chef friends who will be cooking up a storm in our Countryfile Kitchen Theatre, whilst a packed programmes of talks featuring your favourite TV personalities and friends of BBC Countryfile will be taking place in theatres around the show.

Countryfile Live loves dogs and there’ll be a packed schedule of demonstrations over at the Dog Lovers’ Arena for you and your furry friends to enjoy. Shop Great British Crafts and sit back and relax with a drink in our very Craven Arms. There’s so many activities for the family too! Enjoy boat rides, family fishing, foraging, tree climbing, bug hotel building, mud pie making, maypole dancing and more – all against the stunning backdrop of Castle Howard.

Staithes Lifeboat Weekend (17th – 18th August)

Staithes and Runswick RNLI lifeboat team hold a fundraising weekend in August each year to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The weekend has a wide range of activities and events for all the family to enjoy. There are various events held across both the stunning villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes such as lifeboat rescue displays, cliff rescue demonstration by local coastguard teams, a raft race for all ages, stalls and games. On the Saturday evening, there is a firework display following a seafront barbeque. Sunday brings the famous duck race at Staithes beck and then thanksgiving services held at Runswick and Staithes.

Scarborough Cricket Festival 2019 (18th– 21st August)

The Scarborough Cricket Festival is an end of season series of cricket matches featuring Yorkshire County Cricket Club, which has been held in Scarborough since 1876.

The annual Scarborough Cricket Festival is one of the most historic sporting events in the world, and over the years has played host to some of the worlds greatest cricketers. The ground situated on North Marine Road has seen large crowds of holidaymakers watching first class cricket since the very first games – and with the stands built right to the boundary edge, if offers exceptional views and a unique atmosphere.

Circus Rio (Daily shows until 1st September)

Join the party and get into the spirit of Rio with this prestigious cast of circus performers, located just minutes from Crows Nest! The first ever visit to the United Kingdom, Circus Rio will be roaring into history in true carnival style, with artists performing stunts that have never been seen before in this corner of the Planet! All in true Rio style

In an age where so much entertainment is made up of special effects and animation and a show or movie has a virtual reality feel and being digitally manufactured the reality of a live show with live stunts are very rare and so different that the circus visitor literally will not believe what they are seeing!

Whitby Viking Festival (24th – 26th August)

Head to Whitby and face the marauding Vikings as they continue their wave of terror along the north east coast. Explore their encampment and witness spectacular displays of combat. Hear tales of daring conquests and learn about the weapons and skills that made the Vikings feared throughout Europe. There will even be a chance for young warriors to learn some battle skills and take part in their own Viking skirmish.

Book your tickets before 23rd August to receive 10% discount. The festival is set at Whitby Abbey over the weekend.

York Maze (Open until 2nd September)

York Maze is an award winning, seasonal attraction that will give your whole family an “a-mazing” day out. You will have an action packed, fun filled day in the country, exploring your way round our giant maze and enjoying over 20 other exciting rides, shows and attractions.

Set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, yet only 10 minutes from the centre of York, it’s a great day out you don’t want to miss!

Goldwing Light Parade (7th September)

The glittering Goldwing Light Parade & Fireworks Display has become a popular tradition for Scarborough, bringing thousands of bike fans from around the UK to the South Bay for a FREE seafront party every September. Goldwing motorcycles sporting neon lights transport a fleet of riders on a procession around the Marine Drive, illuminating both sides of the shoreline, before the night is closed out with a show-stopping fireworks display.

Britain’s finest Honda GoldWings, the world’s top touring motorbikes, will be on display on Scarborough’s West Pier and in Foreshore Road on Saturday 8th September 2018 from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Then at 8.00pm they leave West Pier for a dazzling parade along the North and South Bays’ promenades, all in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
