Halloween Half Term on the Yorkshire Coast

October is full of seasonal fun here in North Yorkshire! From traditional pumpkin picking to haunted ghost trains and Halloween family activities at some top attractions, there is something for everyone to enjoy this spooky season.

Pumpkin Patches

Pumpkin picking is a must in October! Here are some of the farms and parks near us offering picking, carving and more.

Cedarbarn Farm Shop | 25th - 31st October - Pick and carve your own pumpkin at Cedarbarn and enjoy some great food from their farm cafe. There will also be Halloween crafts and games and their popular children's ghost train.
Farmer Ed's Pumpkin Patch | from 27th September - Farmer Ed has planted over 100,000 pumpkins, squashes and gourds for your picking at this huge patch next to Piglet's Adventure Park. Find your favourite and then have a go on the Pitch & Putt Pumpkin Golf and other family-friendly activities on offer.
Playdale Farm | 25th - 31st October - Find your perfect pumpkin in their haunted patch and then get carving at the spooky carving shed. Afterwards, take part in the mini ghost hunt - keep your eyes peeled for cheeky ghosts hiding among the animals!
Redcliffe Farm | 25th - 31st October - The kids will love the bouncy castle and 'witches hovel' carving barn at Redcliffe Farm after choosing the best pumpkin in this huge patch.
The Balloon Tree | from October - Enjoy the traditional pumpkin picking experience at Balloon Tree - just a wheelbarrow and some wellies! They have plenty of choice and a fantastic cafe to try some seasonal menu items.

Halloween Events

Here are some of our favourite activities taking place over the spooky season near us.

Scarborough Sea Life Ascarium | 11th October - 2nd November
Taking place at the Sea Life Centre, the Ascarium is a spook-tacular day our for families with young children or those looking for a not-so-scary Halloween activity. Help the Sea Witch look after their fellow sea creatures by completing magical activities on your way around the aquarium, with fun photo opportunities, games and a reward for complition! Visit the Sea Life Centre any time during the Ascarium and the event is included in the price of admission. A discount entry QR code is available at Crows Nest reception!

The Hallowscream Express at North Bay Railway | 29th - 31st October
Step aboard the Hallowscream Express at Peasholm Station and set off on a spooky ride of ghost stories and mischief. Keep your eyes peeled on route to Scarborough Station - you never know what might appear in the dark! This ghostly train experience is designed to be spooky, not terrifying, but it is not recommended for children under 5.

The Hallowscream Express will take place between the 29th - 31st October. Tickets must be booked in advance!

Spooky Sewerby | 25th October - 2nd November
Discover creepy characters in Sewerby Hall's Spooky Gardens. Half term here is also packed with fun spooky and not-so-spooky things to do including a wizarding adventure, spooky magic show and a haunted house.

Autumn at Castle Howard | 2nd - 31st October
There's something for all the family to enjoy at Castle Howard over half term, from after dark house tours to pumpkin hunting. The Skelf Island Aventure Playground's native mythical fairy folk will also be performing their play 'The Great Pumpkin Adventure' over the holidays (25th - 31st October).

Green-fingered visitors can also help volunteers to plant bulbs in the beautiful meadows around the house, ready for spring.
