Bringing your beloved pooch to stay with us on your holiday? The Yorkshire Coast is a brilliant location for dogs! There’s a wide choice of places to visit with your fur friends, including dog-friendly pubs and restaurants, beaches and attractions. We’re renowned for being pet friendly. Did you know the nearby market town of Malton was voted the UK’s most dog friendly town in 2018? Be sure to head here from Crows Nest for a scenic day out great for all the family.
Take a look at our choices of walking routes, dining out spots and beaches here for ideas and inspiration on where to go with your dog when you’re staying with us.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the country’s most beautiful and stunning scenery, so we’re not short of great places to walk the dog!
Nearest to the park is the Cleveland Way, a 110 mile walking path which passes by our tent field on the cliff top. Head through the gate at the top of our site and turn left to head to Cayton Bay, Scarborough and beyond, or turn right for a 3 mile walk to Filey. For those daring and agile enough you may be able to take the scramble down to Gristhorpe Bay below - a beautiful spot for seal spotting.
Head further afield to Dalby Forest and take one of their many walking trails with your four-legged friend. Experience the stunning forestry, woodland walks and natural surroundings of this popular spot in the national park. It’s a great day out for all the family too - with play areas, a Go Ape attraction and much more! Check out their website for more information.
Looking for somewhere a little quieter? Try Newtondale, located on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway line. Take the six-mile circular track of the village which takes you through lovely woodland and into the bottom of the valley. Expect stunning scenery and peaceful tranquilly of the countryside in this beautiful hidden village.
Unfortunately the big resort towns of Scarborough and Filey do not have all year round dog friendly beaches, but that doesn’t mean your fur friend can’t enjoy the sand and sea at all! Cayton Bay welcomes dogs year-round and offers a long stretch of sandy beach and waves popular with surfers. Being just 1 mile from Crows Nest, it’s ideal for a relaxing family beach day out.
Further up the coast is the picturesque town of Robin Hood’s Bay which too boasts a year-round dog friendly beach. Enjoy a day out to this stunning little spot near Whitby, filled with old fishing cottages, cafes and independent shops, all with your dog too! The beach is a little rockier than that at Cayton Bay but its still a great choice for a beach day. There’s something here for all the family, dogs included, so be sure to add it to your holiday wish list. Read more about Robin Hood’s Bay on our last blog here.
Runswick Bay is an idyllic beach with picture postcard cliffs is open to dogs and their walkers all year round. Situated just north of Whitby on the coast, head here for a beautiful beach and a seaside village.
Top of our recommendation list is always the nearby Bull Inn, located in the nearby village of Gristhorpe. Expect excellent pub grub at this country inn, which welcomes pets in the bar areas too. The outdoor seating area is also fenced in, perfect for them to enjoy while you sit in the sun! Stop by reception on site for walking directions to The Bull.
In Scarborough, try the Cowshed restaurant for a great choice of burgers and beer. It’s a nice spot for lunch or dinner whilst in the town and welcomes pets too. It’s highly recommended by visitors to the area for families and couples alike.
Check out The Copper Horse Bar & Grill out in the village of Seamer for British and classic dishes and specials. This 4.5* spot serves light bites for lunch and wide choice of traditional evening meals - and of course it’s dog friendly too. Visit on a Sunday for their Sunday Lunch specials.
There’s many more pubs in the area which too welcome dogs, but be sure to check ahead to avoid disappointment.
