Coastival Arts Festival

February 2014 sees the return of the Coastival to Scarborough in a 3 day extravaganza. Over the weekend of the February half-term (14th to 16th February), Scarborough becomes a hot-bed of music, theatre, dance, film, art and festival fever.

Central to Coastival 2014 is Orpheus the Mariner, a huge performance over 2 nights with a cast of over 1000. Featuring giant puppets and including a record attempt for the largest puppet (26 metres tall!!) in the world by Animated Objects Theatre Company and the local community. A truly spectacular event; the like of which will never have been seen before.

Coastival have built a fantastic programme around this year’s chosen theme of movement, featuring music, theatre, arts, dance and entertainment for children.

In fact there’s 100 events in 30 different venues, 80 of them free, spread over three fun-packed days.

Rollercoastival as always, brings lots of FREE activities for children; and young people can find loads of events down at The Street. Local artists open their studios and galleries and there are masses of other unique and special events.

As usual there are FREE films, the FREE Acoustic Lounge and DJ Mister Tooley entertains with some friends in ‘The Engine Room’ through to the early hours, again all FREE.

Music includes the Brand New Heavies, Yorkshire jazz favourite Clare Teal, and “The Lock in Dance Show” - a unique mix of folk and hip-hop, set in a traditional English pub and featuring the Demon Barbers. A special weekend music ticket costing just £50 is available – saving £10 on the individual ticket prices!
