Best Yorkshire Coastal Walks for Dogs

If your perfect holiday includes sea air, wide open spaces and a happy dog trotting beside you, then the Yorkshire Coast is hard to beat.

Staying at our parks puts you in the ideal spot to explore some of the region’s most scenic coastal walks - many of them dog-friendly all year round.

Here are some of our favourite coastal walks to enjoy with your four-legged friend.

1. Robin Hood’s Bay to Boggle Hole

Distance: Approx. 2.5 miles (one way)
Difficulty: Moderate

This is a classic coastal walk and a favourite with dog owners. Starting from the charming village of Robin Hood’s Bay, the path follows the Cleveland Way along dramatic cliffs with sweeping sea views.

The route down to Boggle Hole offers woodland sections, open clifftop paths and a quieter beach area, perfect for dogs who love to explore.

It’s ideal for active dogs and owners who enjoy stunning scenery.

2. Scarborough’s South Bay to Cayton Bay

Distance: Approx. 4 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

A fantastic longer beach walk, especially outside peak restrictions. Starting from South Bay, you can walk along the shoreline towards Cayton Bay, where dogs often have more freedom to roam depending on the season.

Cayton Bay is particularly popular with dog walkers thanks to its wide open sands and fresh sea air.

Afterwards, there are plenty of dog-friendly cafés in Scarborough for a well-earned coffee stop.

3. Whitby to Sandsend

Distance: Approx. 3 miles (one way)
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

This is one of the most scenic and accessible coastal routes in the area. You can choose between the beach route (checking seasonal restrictions) or the clifftop path with panoramic views.

Sandsend is a great turning point, with dog-friendly pubs and cafés where muddy paws are welcome.

4. Filey Brigg Country Park

Distance: Flexible circular route
Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Filey Brigg offers rugged beauty, wildlife and wide-open views. The headland walk is perfect for dogs that enjoy sniffing out new terrain, with grassy paths and rocky outcrops, as well as stunning views of Filey.

It’s generally quieter than some of the busier coastal areas of Scarborough and Whitby, making it ideal for relaxed walks or dogs who need a little space.

5. Cleveland Way Coastal Sections

The Cleveland Way runs through some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in North Yorkshire. You don’t have to tackle the whole route - even short sections provide incredible views and peaceful walking.

Pick a stretch near Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby or Ravenscar for dramatic clifftop views and refreshing sea breezes, or if you are staying at Crows Nest, head straight onto the trail from our camping field for views of Gristhorpe Bay (and maybe some seals!)
